Hi and welcome to Steps No 53 - And away we go..........................................

Who dances wins.... This newsletter has been a long time in the making, we know…..thanks to all the people that have offered reminders to us! So finally, here's what's happening over the next six weeks or so........

Rigby's routine is done and dusted!

We have just finished teaching the R.I.G.B.Y.'S routine, a fun set of moves that really helped to get a number of dancers up and running.  Hat's off to the Rigby's class for taking out the honours this time around with most of the class members being able to dance to the routine in its original format, or mix them in freestyle mode.  For the record, the moves for the basic move were as follows: Right hand hook, Ins & out Swivels, Ginger lean, Butterfly, Yoyo & Sway.

Our sixth birthday bash - Saturday 17th May (RIGBYS)

Party time at last.  Come and help us celebrate our 6th year on the social dancing scene on Saturday May 17 at the fantastic Rigby's venue.  Our host Greg Walker will be offering all of his usual hospitality for what is a significant milestone for Danceroc.  We are hoping to see a lot of past class and function members for what will no doubt be another memorable occasion.  Wear your craziest hat or find a masquerade mask and get your dancing shoes on!  Ticket price ($20 pre-purchased) includes secure undercover parking, finger food, music by Spinnifex Entertainment (yes the same DJ rocked everyone at Max & Marvella's wedding), ice breaker dance class and a chance to win some cool prizes.  Full details will be posted on our website soon www.danceroc.com - keep a look out for it.

Next routine starts  -  Tuesday 29th April

Our next routine commences on Tuesday 29th April at Rigby's and the same moves will then follow the next evening at Mullaloo on Wed 30th.  Speaking of Mullaloo, for the first time in our six year history at the beachside venue, we have a genuine shortage of guys.  So if you have been along to our classes in previous years (two classes or more) and you would like to have a go at learning our next routine at the Mullaloo venue, then give me a call and I will let you know whether you qualify for a discounted class pass.

Farewell King St & Carnegies

As most of you are aware, the Sunday class was postponed over the summer period because of the air conditioning problems we have been experiencing at the studio.  I know many of you have since been disappointed that we have not fired the class up again now that April has arrived.  After talking with Daniel & Heidi, we now think that our easy going Sundays in the city are also becoming  problematic with the growing success of Sunday trading - it is getting harder and harder for everyone to find a car park.  So, for the time being Daniel & Heidi will take a break and we will concentrate on the Tuesday & Wednesday classes.  I have to say that this decision was not made lightly as the Sunday class including all of our past evenings and events at Carnegies was once a major weekly social event for us.

One for the Rock & Rollers

It seems that this newsletter edition is all about Rigby's, here is more- just in case you did not know, Rigby's is a regular destination for families and friends of the Australian ANZAC heroes after the dawn ceremony and city parade.  Every year it is packed out with war veterans and a huge crowd of supporters enjoying a sausage sizzle, a drink and jumping and jiving to the sounds of a Rock & Roll band.  This year the band will be Shoot the Breeze who music suited to both rock & roll and jive.  If you want to get into the swing of things on ANZAC day then get yourself along to this event - ENTRY IS FREE.

That's all from us this time around - hope to see you somewhere soon............................

Hi and welcome to Steps No 52 - And away we go..........................................

Who dances wins.... Its here - yes the festive season is upon us already!  As always, there is so much to do and so many people to catch up with, in such a short space of time.  Just in case you are looking for even more action, we have got some terrific things lined up over the next few months.  Here's what's happening over the next six weeks or so........

Xmas dance party at the Broadwater Pagoda Resort - Fri 14th December

This year, our annual Xmas party will be hosted at the Long Bar Lounge of the classy Broadwater Pagoda Resort.  We have a long history with this venue and I know that so many people just can't wait to get back on the dance floor again with a live band "Pastel City" and heaps of great music to just have fun, fun, fun with.  Tickets are just $20 on the door and that also includes food trays and a chance to go into the draw for a $100 cash prize.  Make sure that your wear something symbolic of Xmas and DRESS TO THRILL.  It does not matter whether you know many moves or can even dance - everyone is welcome including friends, lovers, work colleagues & even your next door neighbor.  Or, you can come on your own as there will be lots of people that you will know from past classes.

We move into freestyle mode until last class 2007 - Wed 19th December

Our last class for 2008 will at the Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club on Wednesday 19/12.  Up to that class, we will free styling our moves so that you can get a feel for how interchangeable all of the great moves of modern jive are.

Hot Hot Hot - King St Class takes a break over summer

For the Sunday dancers: - I have spoken with Ausdance who manage the King St Arts Centre on behalf of the State Government and they have advised that the defective air conditioning for our Sunday Studio is still on the blink and unlikely to be repaired this summer.  No doubt about it, the past few summers have been sweltering in that studio and we have decided to temporarily suspend the Sunday class after new year until April 6, when things are much cooler.  Sincere apologies for the short notice (last class 16/12) to all of the Sunday regulars but we will find a way of making it up to you.  But, the break does partly coincide with a well earned overseas holiday that Daniel & Heidi will be taking during that period!

New Years Dance Party - WORD of MOUTH

If you are looking for a cheap New Years Eve party with lots of party people and great dance music then come and join a group of us that are heading to a dance party organized by the Cosmopolitan Cultural Group of Perth.  One of our all time favourite bands "Word of Mouth" will be playing, DJ etc and the venue is the large Chung Wah Community Hall in Balcatta (18 Radalj Place).  Complimentary cocktail at midnight and Asian food available.  Bring your own drinks and nibbles.  Tickets are $25 on the door and just look for the Danceroc tables.  Further information may be obtained from Marlene (0410944293).

Next years classes commence - Tues 15th January.

We start up again in 2008 on Tuesday night 15th January.  We look forward to seeing you all again as well as all of the new jivers that will be part of our scene next year.

Party routine No 3 - learn to jive quickly!

Speaking of next year, we will be getting our third seven week party routine under way, starting at Rigby's and The Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club on 15 &16/1.  This is a great way of learning modern jive and will get you up and running very quickly as well as giving you all a spring board to learn lots & lots more in the future.

Look who has tied the knot!!

Warm congratulations must go to the following three loving couples.  First of all, Max and Marvella from the King St group got hitched last month and I have to say their bridal routine was terrific with a blend of moves from tango and modern jive, it was very sensual and captivating - but hey they have always been great dancers haven't they!  Then earlier this month, Chuong and Jacinta from the Mullaloo group also tied the knot and I know they put a lot effort in to perfecting their moves to Jancinta's favourite song.  And finally, two Rigby group members Brad & Raelene are scheduled to walk down the isle mid January - so next Tuesdays class will be the last chance to wish them well before their big event!

 Melbourne Dance Weekender

Deb Cantoni from Le Bop modern jive in Melbourne (www.lebop.com.au) has sent us over a pile of brochures advertising a dance weekender in Melbourne.  Held on 7 - 10 March, it will comprise of a week end getaway with accommodation, dinners, 28 different dance workshops, glitter ball, and all kinds of dance parties and activities.  It looks like very good value to us - if you interested, check out the website and/or pick up a brochure in class.

That's all from us this time around - look forward to seeing you soon............................
